Garrett County Habitat's Mission:

Building safe, adequate houses for those in need who live or work in Garrett County, Maryland.

How does it work?

To make home ownership possible, we use the economic model of Jesus: no profit on the sale; no interest on the loan.
We work to foster a community where eliminating substandard housing is a matter of conscience and action.

Who may apply?

Households with members who live or work in Garrett County, Maryland may apply. We work together in the spirit of Christian love and joy, giving witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ. GC Habitat homeowners are chosen without regard to race, religion or ethnic group, in keeping with U.S. law and with Habitat’s abiding belief that God’s love extends to everyone. Our Christian foundation calls for us to set aside religious differences and work together to eliminate poverty housing and we welcome volunteers from all faiths, or no faith, who actively embrace this Habitat goal. As a matter of policy, GC Habitat and all Habitat for Humanity International affiliated organizations do not proselytize. This means that GC Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must adhere to or convert to a particular faith or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.

Why is housing important?

Decent, stable housing provides more than just a roof over a family’s head. It  provides:

  • Sense of dignity, pride and hope.
  • Health, physical safety and security.
  • Increased educational opportunities and job prospects.
  • Stronger communities.
