We Build a Path to Homeownership
Become a Homeowner

Volunteer
Whether looking to volunteer as an individual, group or business, there are many opportunities to get involved.
How Does It work?
To make home ownership possible, we use the economic model of Jesus: no profit on the sale; no interest on the loan. We work to foster a community where eliminating substandard housing is a matter of conscience and action.
Why Is Housing Important?
Decent, stable housing provides more than just a roof over a family’s head. It provides:
- Sense of dignity, pride and hope.
- Health, physical safety and security.
- Increased educational opportunities and job prospects.
- Stronger communities.
Who May Apply?
The first step is to thoroughly review the eligibility requirements and application for our home ownership program here. In order to qualify applicants must:
- Demonstrate a need for improved housing
- Meet income eligibility
- Demonstrate ability to pay
- Currently live in substandard housing
- Live or work in Garrett County for the past year
- Partner with us in a homeowner education program
- Perform 250 "sweat equity" hours per adult in the household
Great Need
The recent census showed that over 62 homes in Garrett County did not have indoor running water.
A Long History
Garrett County Habitat for Humanity was incorporated in 1984 and we have built 84 houses.
Fundraising
Even though our homeowners buy their own homes, we cover a deficit of around $30,000 per home build.
Sweat Equity
Each family must donate 250 hours of labor per adult persons in the household.

Your participation in our Annual More Than Houses Auction means you are directly contributing to building a home for a family in need. You’ll enjoy dinner catered by Goehringers and great entertainment with our silent auction and live auction with an auctioneer.
