Twenty-Four Years of Building a Strong Foundation in Garrett County
Rockville United Church is building strong foundations in Garrett County with Habitat for Humanity. For the past 24 years, this dedicated faith organization brings adults and youth to Garrett County to build homes for a week in July. This year RUC partnered with Bethesda United Church of Christ and the United Church of Christ Seneca Valley for a successful building adventure and fellowship.
In addition to dedicating time and exceptional talents to work in construction,
this group spends the entire year putting God’s love into action by raising funds through holiday wreath sales, a Spring dinner and huge Church yard sale the third weekend in May for the express purpose of pursuing social justice and equality by building affordable housing for needy families.
This July, RUC presented Garrett County Habitat for Humanity with a check for $9,000 in donations raised throughout the year for the construction of decent, simple homes.
Sincere thanks goes to Pleasant Valley Community Center for housing the RUC group and to the following churches for feeding the team each evening: McHenry United Methodist Church, Oakland Church of Christ and Bethel United Methodist Church. The delicious food, fellowship and ability to serve others, brings them back year after year.
